My name is Griffin Garcia, I am a second-semester sophomore and a journalism major. I write for CCSU’s paper, The Recorder, as a sports writer and follow most sports at the professional level. I believe that media today, especially social media, is extremely useful for someone in their everyday life. Social media allows someone to catch up on breaking news at their fingertips by eliminating the wait for a newspaper to be delivered or for a TV news station to break the news.
Social media has been a part of my life since I was in high school and ever since I was introduced to it, it became something I used regularly. Twitter allows me to see when the superintendent would tweet about closings and delayed openings during the winter. I also use media outlets such as Bleacher Report and CBS Sports on a daily basis to keep up-to-date on the sports world.
I enrolled in journalism 255 as a requirement for my journalism major, and look forward to learning what different types of media there are, as well as seeing which types of media I use and how often I use them. My goal in this course is to expand the types of media I am able to use in my future as a journalist and as a person.
